How to make Japanese desserts—Mouthwatering, healthy deserts that are commonly prepared in Japan

 

                Are you having Japanese friends over for dinner and want to impress them with a Japanese dessert? Or are you just curious about the Japanese culture? Either way, the Japanese are famous for their mouthwatering, healthy desserts including No Bake Cheesecake and Fried Sweet Potatoes with Honey. Both of the recipes shown are below.
 
 
No Bake Cheesecake:
What you will need:
ü 3/4 cup of cream cheese, softened
ü 3/4 cup of plain yogurt + an additional 2 Tbsp.
ü 1/3 cup of sugar
ü 2 Tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice
ü 1 Tbsp of gelatin powder
ü 1/4 cup of water
What you will need for crust:
ü 1 cup of crushed graham crackers
ü 3 Tbsp. of butter
ü 1 Tbsp. of sugar
 
Steps to make No bake cheesecakes:
1.       Mix gelatin powder and water in a small microwavable bowl, set aside
2.       Prepare the crust
1)      Combine all 3 ingredients (graham crackers, butter, & sugar)
2)      Add into a pie pan (round cake pan)
3)      Press down crumbs and make even into pie shell
3.       Add cream cheese into a bowl and stir until softened
4.       Heat gelatin powder and water mixture (made in step 1) in the microwave until liquid
5.       Mix all of the yogurt, sugar, lemon juice, and gelatin mixture into the cream cheese very well
6.       Pour this filling onto the crust and spread out until even across the top.
7.       Refrigerate cheesecake for at least 3 hours
8.       Eat and enjoy =)
 
*    Serve with fruits, fruit sauce, or jam
 
 
 
Fried Sweet Potatoes with Honey (Daigaku Imo)
What you will need:
ü 2 sweet potatoes (about 5 inches long)
ü Oil for frying
ü 1.5 Tbsp. of honey
ü 1 Tsp. Of black sesame seeds
Steps to making fried sweet potatoes
1.       Thoroughly clean your sweet potatoes
2.       Cut sweet potatoes into bite-sized chunks
*      Do not remove the skin
3.       Rinse off sweet potatoes again and pat dry
4.       Cover your pan with oil and wait for it to warm up (slightly below medium heat)
5.       Carefully place your diced sweet potatoes in the skillet
6.       Fry in the skillet, turning constantly, until golden brown
7.       Remove sweet potatoes with a slotted spoon and put into a bowl
8.       Add the honey on top and stir a few times so all the sweet potatoes have honey
9.       If desired, sprinkle black sesame seeds on top
10.   Serve now or chill and serve dessert cold
